Laptop DC power jack repair FAQ:
Q. Are you a local repair shop or a national repair center?
A. Actually we're both. We started out as a family owned & operated hometown business. Over time we've grown into a popular repair center who services computers for customers all over the US. We have become most famous for our laptop DC power jack repair service; however people in our community still know us as their local computer shop.

Q. What geographical areas do you serve?
A. Our laptop repair service covers everywhere in the United States. Through the ease of shipping via UPS, USPS, FedEx and DHL, we have replaced the DC jack in laptops for customers across the USA! Customers tell us they feel the price, speed and quality of our laptop DC jack repair along with our friendly customer service makes their decision to ship their laptop to us worthwhile.

Q. Will this repair work on my brand of laptop?
A. Yes, we repair the jack on all brands of laptop computers. More accurately, we replace the DC jack in laptops. Some of the most common laptops that require DC jack repair that we see are HP (Pavilion and Omnibook ), Compaq (Armada and Presario series), Dell (Inspiron and Latitude), Acer (Travelmate and Aspire ), Toshiba (we see a lot of the Satellite series), Sony (Vaio), Averatec, IBM (Thinkpad), Gateway, Emachines, Samsung, Asus and Panasonic.

Q. Why would I choose Your Computer People for DC jack repair on my laptop?
A. We have state-of-the-art soldering equipment and talented, skilled technicians who will replace the jack on your laptop the right way without doing any damage to your laptop. Having good equipment means we can remove the old jack quickly and safely without applying too much heat too long to the motherboard during de-soldering. Our techs get a lot of practice replacing DC power jacks before they ever touch a customer's laptop!

Q. What do I need to know about shipping my laptop to you for repair?
A. Include the power adapter (if you can) with your shipment as well as a piece of paper with your name, daytime phone number, return shipping address and email address.

Shipping is safe as long as you provide adequate protection inside the laptop's packaging like bubble wrap around the laptop and a couple of inches of foam around that. We will ship your laptop back to you in the packaging in which it was sent to us. We are not responsible for any damage during shipment. If you adequately package your laptop, however, you won't have to worry about any damage while in transit. You ship to us using your preferred method of delivery; expedited shipping is available upon your request at an additional charge. Insurance is your responsibility. We will automatically put $500 insurance on the package unless you request more insurance. You don't pay until we call you and confirm that we can perform the requested repair.

We accept any major credit card over the phone or we can invoice via secure PayPal payments. Most of our customers simply prefer to pay with a debit or credit card.

We don't charge extra for handling. You pay what we pay for shipping back to you.

Q. How do I pay you?
A. The easiest way (and the way most of our customers simply prefer to pay) is via any major credit or debit card over the phone. We can also email you an invoice via Paypal if that's more convenient for you. You may pay by personal check, but we must wait for the funds to clear before we can ship your laptop.

Q. What if it can't be fixed?
A. On very rare occasions, part of the motherboard is broken where that jack actually attaches. This usually only happens if the cord was yanked out very hard. When the unit is opened and we note this, we do not do the repair and do not charge you for the jack repair. We will give you some options, including sending the laptop back, a quote on a replacement motherboard or other options. If you choose not to have the laptop repaired, we will only charge our standard diagnostic fee (as of January 1st, 2008 it is $50.00) plus return shipping.

Q. How long does it take?
A. We repair laptops in the order received. Turnaround time on our DC power jack repair is typically less than 2 business days. Sending your laptop to the manufacturer for repair (actually motherboard replacement) could take 6 weeks or more!

Q. Will my DC jack ever break again?
A. We do this repair daily and the laptop technicians performing the repair are very good at it, however, we can not change the engineering of your laptop. Some DC jacks mount in to your laptop's motherboard by as few as three small pins. Most laptops never return for service a second time, but note that on many models one good jerk will break the jack free again.

Q. Is there a warranty on the repair?
A. Yes! We stand behind our work and the jack itself with a 30-day guarantee against defective parts and installation. You are covered in the event the jack repair was not performed properly. We are proud to say we have less than a 1% return rate on our power jack repair work. That means less than 1 out of every 250 of our laptop DC jack repair jobs come back for a warranty issue!
